Off Topic: The Black Girl Into Heavy Metal

Yep. I felt bad about not posting for a while (school started again and I'm really trying to get into a certain transfer program). So, I felt like posting a picture of yours truly. I've had this blog for four years now, so I figure it shouldn't be a big deal.  I think I'm still gonna keep the blogger picture what it is, but in case you wanted to see...
I'm still going to post, but it may be a while from now. I sincerely apologize if your wondering whats going on and agitated by the delays.

Old school brother into metal, noise, hardcore and tons of other 'non-urban' stuff.

One of the things I've noticed as of late is that the internet has really done an excellent job of crushing the barriers between us and it's highly apparent musically. I've seen more black folks here in Atlanta into metal and punk than ever. Being from Maine growing up in the 80's, I remember being the only one!

A great sign! I just dropped in, so I don't know if you know them, or care, but we have a great blackened death metal group here in Atlanta called Wolves & Jackals. Yes, the main dude, Jamal, is a brother but I wouldn't mention them if they weren't excellent. Generally I don't like death metal - too cute - not so much the case for these guys.

Well, I'm knew to your blog so there are no issue with delays. I just wanted you to know that I really like what you have going on here. I've been a metal-head for years and it's been a journey of struggling acceptances within a small community and actually fitting in. Keep up the good work!

Hey, I know you don't really do anything with this blog anymore, but I came across it a few times, and that's mostly due to the fact I have spent like two years trying to figure out who this one specific band is.

The band, who was made of of all black members, was a hard rock band from the early 90s, and I really liked them. Anyway, I could only remember one song title (Fuck the Blues), and no matter how many times and ways I Goggled "Fuck the Blues" and "Black metal/rock bands" or whatever other keys words and combos I have used, I got nothing.

Anyway, I went on a mission tonight to find out who this band was, and I came across your blog a few times during this battle, and I finally figured it out! This is a stupid long story, but the only reason I am sharing it with you is because I want to share the band with you, since I think you would really appreciate it: Proper Grounds.

This was their kinda big song, 'Jezebel': http://youtu.be/9mFnqlyeFqE

Hope you haven't heard of them before, but if you did, then that's cool, too. Sorry for all the dumb back story, but I wanted to share with you something I think you would dig!

good blog I'm black and giving you props, interesting , came across this by pure coincidence. My daughter is 15 and into death core.White folks are intrigued and supportive, her friends white and black, think she's dead cool. I was concerned for her to begin with given I don't see too many black folk into or in metal.but she's holding her own ,she's strong and deals with any negativity positively. The only negatives comes from certain girls her age, who have yet to gain enough brain power ,to think outside the box .I admire her uniqueness. Any music that breaks down barriers that people create, is worth listening to.one love
