The Changing Face of Rock

I thought you all would find this article interesting. It's old but its about Ozzfest 2008 and how metal is beginning to become more multiracial/diverse. I think its a good thing that music like metal or even rap is becoming more and more submerged with new faces that bring different sounds to it.

Personally, I don’t mind people black people being into Heavy Metal or white people being into Hip Hop, but I don’t like it how the article is trying to present “rap-oriented rock acts” as the future of Heavy Metal. I mean, come on. Linkin Park or P.O.D. might be rock bands, but they are not HEAVY METAL bands! Manowar is a Metal band, Slayer is a Metal band, W.A.S.P. is a Metal band, Tankard is a Metal band, even Nightwish is a Metal band, but Linkin Park is NOT a Metal band! Look for these bands on Youtube and give them a try. You’ll see and hear what I mean.
Now I actually agree. They shouldn't pass off bands like Linkin Park, Korn, P.O.D, etc as metal. They may have hard rock influences but they aren't metal.

Did I miss where they called Linkin Park a metal band? I only saw them mentioned as, "Asian Americans and Latinos leading rap-oriented rock ensembles."

“As evidenced by Ozzfest, rock’s racial barrier has thoroughly been shattered. Attend a metal festival nowadays and you’re likely to see goth-metal bands fronted by African American singers (Sevendust, God Forbid, Killswitch Engage), or Asian Americans and Latinos leading rap-oriented rock ensembles (Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, P.O.D., Hoobastank).”

Did I miss something, or is this part of the article really talking about METAL festivals where RAP-oriented rock ensembles are also playing? To me this sounds as if certain people want to make the younger fans believe that there is no real difference between HEAVY METAL bands and “rap-oriented rock bands”.
